13.12.2021 – 17.12.2021
The 2nd mobility of students was organised in Poštanska i telekomunikacijska škola in Zagreb from 13th to 17th December 2021. We spent the first day getting to know each other better through various activities such as modified ‘Speed dating’ game to start the communication and a Kahoot quiz about the countries involved in the project. The afternoon was reserved for ‘treasure hunt’ in Zagreb Upper Town during which the students had to find and take a photo of the specific check points while walking around the old historic part of the Croatian capital. Although everyone was a bit tired by the end of the challenge, we had a great fun on a chilly December afternoon and it was a perfect introduction to the next day activities.
The next day was dedicated to Physics workshops in the school and the students from the participating countries, who were split in multinational teams, had to carry out experiments, make
conclusions about their results and then turn what they had learnt into proper lesson plans for the project’s lab website. In the evening it was time for visiting Zagreb Christmas Market, now the
traditional city-wide event which takes place throughout the month of December each year, and tasting mulled wine, sausages and ‘fritule’, a typical deseert at this time of the year in Croatia.
On the third day the students gathered in the school’s computer labs to try out VR equipment and see the work that had been done up to then regarding the experiments in virtual reality, learn about programming and comment on and polish the project’s lab website, which at this moment was still a work in progress. To relax after the hard day of work, in the evening we headed for one of the skating rinks in the city and continued to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the Christmas Market offer of food and entertainment.
On Thursday we exchanged the school’s classrooms and labs for the college lecture hall at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing where, after the workshop on virtual reality games, the
students had an opportunity to brainstorm their own game in teams and present it to the others, making sure they followed the rules and recommendations mentioned during the workshop. To finish off the day, we went to the Museum of Illusions, a cosy and fun place in the city centre, and had a good laugh at our distorted images created by optical illusions.
The last day was a day for getting out of the city so we started off early in the morning for the Plitvice Lakes National Park, some three hours drive from Zagreb. Plitvice Lakes are Croatia’s most popular tourist attraction and the national park was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979. It consists of sixteen lakes, inter-connected by a series of waterfalls, and it is set in deep woodland populated by deer, bears, wolves, boars and rare bird species. Although the winter season may not be the best time to see the lakes in all their glory, we still enjoyed a great walk in the fascinating nature and captured some fantastic shots of the waterfalls.
